Automated Submission of MARC Updates to State Catalog of Iowa

Biblionix announced that its Apollo system has an automatic update capability for SILO (State of Iowa Libraries Online), the State of Iowa union library catalog.

Apollo can now automatically update SILO for all of its 100 Iowa public library customers as well as new customers. It will send MARC for added items as well as updates for deleted items. Customers no longer need to do this manually at the SILO website. The updates are done on a monthly basis. Previously, librarians needed to spend precious time carefully exporting certain MARC, creating lists of deleted items, and uploading.

“Thanks for doing this for us,” said Joy Stortvedt of the Shenandoah Public Library. “It will make my life SO much simpler.”

“I am LOVING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,” said Pam Witt of the Polk City Community Library. “Thank You So MUCH.”

The library can set limits on what MARC is sent so that new items and certain types of items are not subject to Inter-library loan (ILL) requests. This helps greatly reduce time needed to respond to ILL requests. Also provided is the ability to send MARC for SILO’s “Locator CleanUp” capability. With the help of State Library of Iowa personnel, this resets SILO’s complete record of the library’s MARC to correct any discrepancies. The lending limits are used for this as well.

This feature is available immediately and is offered at no charge.
